Kevin Neri is a visual journalist who uses photography and video to capture defining moments in everyday life. Driven by curiosity and empathy, his work aims to make viewers feel present in the moment. He prioritizes accuracy and trust, building relationships with the people he documents to tell stories authentically.
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Kevin developed an early interest in people, community, and society, though photography was not initially a career path he envisioned. That changed in early 2022 when he picked up a camera for the first time in a photojournalism course while pursuing a journalism degree at the University of Oregon. Visual storytelling quickly became instinctual rather than work.
Kevin began in sports photography, drawing from a lifelong connection to athletics. Living in Eugene, known as TrackTown USA, he focused on track and field, learning how sports intersect with culture and community. This led to coverage of the 2022 World Athletics Championships Oregon22 and freelance work with KVAL-TV.
After graduating, Kevin interned at The Sacramento Bee, expanding into video while covering daily and breaking news, portraits, and features. He is now a full-time visual journalist at the Statesman Journal in Salem, Oregon.
